Hippocrates (Father of Western Medicine) once said, "Let Food by thy medicine." Another popular line says, "You are what you eat." These two statements alone are enough to convince me to respect my body, and watch what I eat and put into it. If I were to travel back in time and witness what early man ate before nuclear energy, I imagine a trial and error scene of eating berries, nuts, fruit, leafy vegetables, flowers, etc. I do not think human instinct would drive anyone to run after a bull or a deer for dinner on a warm summer afternoon. It just doesn't sound right! It's unnatural, inhumane, and grossly unappealing. We have zombie and vampire movies for that. But I guess, when there's nothing left to eat during intense hunger pangs, anything that lives would suffice. I wish we could just follow the advice of Marjorie Dawes in Little Britain's episodes of Fat Fighters, when she offers members "Dust, anyone? Dust?"
So here are some pics of what I have been eating at home lately. They are cooked minimally, organic for the most part (thanks to Northern California's abundant organic farming scene), and enjoyed with good company all the time.

I have always wanted to try eating healthy and eliminate meat in my diet, but the right time never came until three weeks ago. I love steak, chicken, pork chops, turkey, lamb, etc. so much that I thought I would never be able to give up eating them. I was wrong. It can be done! I am not a very strict vegan in any sense because I still eat seafood and dairy products regularly. If I am in a situation where the only thing to eat is meat, I would definitely eat it and not feel guilty at all. What I am trying to do is to eat as much as 95% fruits and vegetables, seafood, and select dairy products, and leave the 5% to occasional meat cravings or unavoidable circumstances.
I am not doing this because it's a fad, or because I want to lose weight. I am simply incorporating healthy, simple and natural living into my lifestyle, and I think putting stuff from your mouth into your digestive system and every single cell of my body is very important and underrated. A lot of us have not really thought about it, nor considered what it really means in regard to quality of Life. Some people think vegitarians are stupid and weird for being so, while meat eaters never get ostracized for grazing at eat all you can buffet restaurants and steakhouses.
I love Zombie movies, and I always thought I would not want to be the one being eaten by those freaks. On the other hand, I am also terrified by the thought of chasing after human flesh and eating guts, brains, liver, and other bloody body parts. I would rather join Fat Fighters with Marjorie and eat dust.
If it's literally true that we are what we eat, then I would rather be an artichoke or an orange that looks green and stylish, and smells good all the time.
